‘Popstars -The One’ is the third chapter in the country’s most watched series, documenting the unprecedented cross-country search for Canada’s next major solo singing star.
“Popstars – The One” is an insider’s look into the search for Canada’s next major solo singing star. The third chapter in the Country’s most watched series begins by following the judges as they travel cross-country, from Vancouver, BC to St. John’s, Newfoundland, auditioning male and female wannabe singing sensations Eps.(1-3) . On the unprecedented 8 city tour of Canada are the judges; writer/producer Paul Myers; Erica Ehm, former Much Music vj and comedian Jason Rouse whose job it is to filter through the mass number of wannabes from coast to coast.
Once the cross-country trip is complete, the top 45 auditioners are selected to compete in the infamous week-long Popstars ‘bootcamp’. During this intensive, high-pressure series of tests, the stakes are even higher with new judges coming aboard; Michael Geddes, President of Lone Eagle Entertainment Ltd. Who will eventually sign the artist; and Juno winning rap recording star Choclair join Paul and Erica.
Throughout the drama-filled week(episodes 4-8) grueling cuts are made until only 12 auditioners are left standing.
In the ‘home stretch’ phase(episodes 9-13) the bar is set even higher as viewers get a chance to get up close and personal with the remaining 12. The wannabes get the opportunity to work with legendary Motown writer and producer Lamont Dozier who will guide them in the studio as they prepare their final showcase song. By episode 11, the 12 remaining singers endure one last round of cuts – this time made by the viewing audience itself through telephone voting – and the final 7 are revealed.
In episode 12 the 7 finalists hit the big stage and perform with a live band in a special showcase episode where they have one last nerve-wracking shot to impress their television audience. Following the showcase, the viewing audience is given the opportunity to cast their votes via telephone for the one singer who has captured their hearts. In episode 13, the winner is announced before a live studio audience in the highly anticipated season finale. Out of the final 7, …. Is it a guy or a girl? …only the audience knows.
Our winner will immediately go into a recording contract and work with the industry’s best to launch his/her first album.
